i.D BLiNDS also do curtains. In fact, we love mixing and matching curtains and blinds to create stylish solutions, enhancing the aesthetics and appeal of spaces and places.

“Seven years ago blinds were the latest craze, but now we’re seeing curtains having an enormous resurgence,” said Dianne Healy. “The growth of sheer fabric is remarkable, and we’ve noticed clients are even pairing their sheers with a very simple block out lining behind for privacy.”

Our Cairns curtains come in a range of fabrics and styles, from sheers, to linen look and blockout curtains. They’re complemented with an extensive range of hardware, matching any type of interior design. They can be installed as eyelet curtains, pencil pleat curtains and ripple fold curtains. They can be centre opening, side stack or one-way draw.

Organic, natural and linen-look textures are proving the most popular. “Beautiful curtains will soften the look and feel of a room, in a way no other window treatment can,” Dianne says. “There is something relaxing and soothing about a sheer curtain flowing in the breeze, it just softens the space.”

Curtains are also creeping up to ceilings, with a trend of installing tracking systems as high as possible. “The sky’s the limit,” Dianne says. “When you fit a curtain track onto the ceiling or underneath your cornice, it gives the room height and provides an illusion of larger window openings.”

How to choose the right curtain for your home

  1. Curtains should always be full-length and sit approximately 10mm from the floor. Short curtains NEVER look good, no matter how nice the fabric is.
  2. Install your curtain tracking closer to the ceiling than the top of your window to create a taller window / door.
  3. Where possible, extend your track wall to wall so when the curtains are open you can take full advantage of your outlook.
  4. Make sure you know the different pleats available: Ripple Fold, Reverse Box Pleat and Pinch Pleat are the most popular.
  5. Team sheers with simple block out roller blinds to allow for transparency during the day and privacy at night.
